One of the pioneers in motorcycling in Spain. His exploits have been recorded well beyond the frontiers where his list of achievements has been won. Among his uncountable successes are the 15 victories obtained in the 1988 season (6 in 80 cc and 9 in 125 cc) and the four triumphs on the same day at Imola, Assen, Rijeka and Brno. They were other times and changes in the regulations mean that Jorge was the last to do it, as is the case of the two world championship titles won in the same year in 1988.
The podium was always his goal and whenever possible on the very highest step, but even on the forty three occasions he was not on the podium, he always went home satisfied knowing that he was the first Spanish rider to have crossed the finish line.
In 1997 Jorge Martinez Aspar took part in his last race, but he did not retire from motorcycling, quite the opposite in fact. Since 1992 Jorge has had his own successful team that has grown to become one of the most important teams in the world championship. He was one of the greatest riders of all times and he invested all his energy in offering the best of him year after year to each and every one of the riders who have passed through his team.
At the beginning he used one single structure to take on the World and Spanish championships. But from 2002 the riders started to be different and two clear structures arose shared be only part of the personnel.
Over the years, the details have been honed and finely tuned to reach the impressive situation of the team today, but always with special attention to training as shown in his commitment to the rider's school at the Circuit of the Valencian Community Ricardo Tormo, of which he is a promoter, and where his presence is felt in a very active way.
He currently directs the best structure in the World Motorcycling Championship with three riders in the 125 cc class, of which the team currently holds the championship, and two riders in 250 cc. in spite of having five riders, Aspar continues working to create a Valencian team in the maximum class - MotoGP.
His exploits have been recognised outside our frontiers, but he is also a "prophet in his own land". In Spain he has received a large number of prizes, among which the following are those that probably most stand out:
