Bancaja

Bancaja is the third Spanish savings bank and the sixth financial group that has the strategic objective of growing in a balanced and sustainable way while maintaining its position at the head of the banking industry.

The policy of the group is to give priority to its function as financial distributor in specialist businesses. Bancaja is present in insurance and forecasts, investment funds, personal banking and private banking, real estate and travel, among others. In order to carry out its business, the Bancaja Group establishes agreements with qualified operators when necessary.

The Bancaja Group diversifies its business sources and results through not only financial investments and therefore has a wider range of industrial shares with a greater value within the Spanish financing system. This includes significant share packages in Iberdrola, Enagas, NH Hotels or Abertis.

At the close of the 2006 financial year, the bank showed a business volume of 145,007 million euros with a profit of 796 million euros, 139.7% more than the previous year. The Bancaja Group has over 1500 branches in Spain and is also present internationally in Miami, Shanghai, Cancun, Milan, Rome, Paris, London, Munich, Lisbon and Warsaw.

El Compromio Bancaja (Bancaja 's commitment) is the strategic axle of its corporative structure and its treatment of its customers. The innovative element, that tries to reinforce the concept of commitment to the customer, is its self imposing of financial penalties that clients receive from the bank. Because of its nature as a savings bank, Bancaja reinvests part of its profits in society through cultural, social and sporting activities.

Insofar as their involvement with sports is concerned, Bancaja maintains a policy of action and sponsorship, aimed at the general public, particularly at young people who are the future of our society. Supporting people when they are starting out, which is when they most need help, is a task that clearly complies with the bank's objectives.

One of the most important examples of this kind of support is in motorcycling. The Valencian Community has been the birthplace to many great riders such as Jorge Martinez Aspar or Ricardo Tormo, and that is why Bancaja has become particularly committed to this sport. The Bancaja "Cuna de Campeones" (Cradle of Champions) is an event that has been organised for the last eight years. It is a way of supporting young people who are taking their first steps on the race track. With our help many of the young riders have now forged a place for themselves on the international motorcycling scene.

The Bancaja Costa del Sol Basketball Campus and the Sports Games in the Valencian Community are just two more examples of the effort that Bancaja puts into the world of sports.

Furthermore, Bancaja sees in sport a possibility for integration and therefore organises and cooperates in a series of activities that have sport as their excuse and social integration as their real purpose. Examples of this are the Bancaja Cup, New Citizens Seven-a-Side Football, a competition organised for immigrants living in the Valencian Community; the second edition of the Intercultural Co-existence Race was organised with the same purpose.

Bancaja supports sports for all citizens and therefore favours those sports that incite people to take part. That is the case of the "Volta a Peu" or Popular Marathon, the Valencian Community Cycling Tour and the Bancaixa Pelota Valenciana Circuit (a traditional Valencian game somewhere between squash and handball with a hard small ball).
