Valencia (23/01/2008).- The President of the Generalitat, Francisco Camps, today stated that with the holding of the European Formula One Grand Prix, in Valencia, in August, the Comunitat Valenciana is providing Spain with an internationally renowned sporting event.

Camps made these declarations after chairing the meeting, held this evening, to present the features of the Valencia Street Circuit to the Formula One teams. At this meeting, which took place at the Comunitat Valenciana Ricardo Tormo Circuit in Cheste, were present the main persons in charge of the Grand Prix.

The President of the Council expressed special thanks to all those who "have made it possible for the engine and speed to have achieved an important presence in the Comunitat", not just in relation to the speed championships that take place throughout the year, but also in the tests which took place in recent days at the Comunitat Valenciana Ricardo Tormo Circuit.

In this regard, Camps drew special attention to the "warm welcome" that the training sessions received from the supporters in the Comunitat Valencia, as well as those from other parts of Spain.

Along these lines, the President emphasized the capacity of the Comunitat Valenciana for hosting important sporting events, namely the Volvo Ocean Race, the America's Cup or the World Championship in Athletics. In this context, he stressed that with the Formula One Grand Prix, the Comunitat Valenciana "provides Spain with an important sporting event at world level".

"We are committed to constantly protecting our Comunitat and Spain, and therefore - he added - Spain will have another Formula One Grand Prix, thanks to an urban circuit such as the one in Valencia - this would not have been possible, if not for the construction of this circuit".

Camps also highlighted the international image that the Comunitat Valenciana and Spain have as a result of holding a championship of this dimension. He thanked the work of all those who, contributed to making a reality, the holding of this championship in the Comunitat Valenciana.

And in this way, he thanked all those in charge at Valmor and all those persons who made an effort to carry out this project. He also thanked the work of the engineers and the technicians who are building the circuit, as well as those who are currently building the Valencia Urban Circuit.

In this context, he thanked Bernie Ecclestone who has believed in and has had faith in the holding of a Formula One Grand Prix at an urban circuit.

He stated that, now, all that is left to do is complete the construction of the circuit, carry out the corresponding tests and "on August 24, let the European Grand Prix be held on the streets and in the port of Valencia".
