Valencia (28/07/2007).- The president of Valmor Sport, Fernando Roig, has analysed the consequences of yesterday's announcement from the FIA, in relation to the provisional timetable for the 2008 Formula One World Championship. According to this timetable, the first European Grand Prix of the seven, which will be held at the Valencia urban circuit, will be on August 24, 2008.
Roig, Bancaja and Jorge Martínez Aspar are the owners of the company that manages the rights of the European Grand Prix, which will be held at the Valencia urban circuit (Valmor). The president of the company described the 24 of August as "the day on which the whole world will discover a new Valencia, a project in which we are proud to participate, through the adventure that presents the organization of the Grand Prix".
"With less than a year to go, getting the circuit up and running, and organising the Grand Prix is a challenge, fit only for the brave" said Roig, who showed himself to be "confident that with the great efforts made by the Generalitat to invite to tender early in the time, the construction work would be completed in June; and that with the help of the team at the Comunitat Valenciana Ricardo Tormo Circuit in organising the Grand Prix, we will manage to be on time to display the best possible image".
The fact that the event coincides with the Olympic Games in Peking is not a problem for the businessman from Valencia, who said "it's normal that, in a year of Olympic Games, some of the Grands Prix would coincide with the dates". "What's interesting for tourism is to mix the attraction of the Comunitat Valenciana in the summer with a hugely important sporting event, so that in addition to the beach tourism we also have the celebration of the Grand Prix with the huge number of people it attracts", stated Fernando Roig.
The regional councillor for Infrastructure and Transport, Mario Flores, announced ten day ago that the development works for the construction of a Formula One urban circuit in Valencia, will get underway some time in October and all could be completed in June, 2008 "so now the deadlines are fixed, all we have to do now is get to work".
