Valencia (18/07/2007).- The Councillor of and Transport of the Comunitat Valenciana, Mario Flores has stated that the works to build the street circuit of Formula One in Valencia will start approximately in October and that the circuit could be ready in June 2008. The Councillor has presented today the design of the Formula One Circuit in Valencia.

Mario Flores has enphasized that "these will open Valencia to the sea even more than nowadays because the designed road network of the city will be used in the circuit and because of that Valencia will have the most modern street circuit in the world and it will be achieved with a neutral cost for the citizens".

The Councillor has said that "the works of the new circuit won't have any kind of impact in the city, otherwise, it will be very good because its construction allows to accelerate the urbanization of this area. With the selected design we have achieved a street circuit, as safe as a permanent one, to integrate the circuit in the city, to avoid any nuisance to the citizens and to show the beauty of the city and its condition of being a balcony to the sea."

Flores has stated too that "the Comunitat Valenciana keeps consolidating itself as an noteworthy place, capable to welcome the best events in the world because the Formula One in Valencia will be attended by over 500 million spectators that will be able to admire this city, what will mean an impact of over 70 million € every year".

Main characteristics

The Formula One street circuit of Valencia will be sitted in the Grao area, specifically around the interior basin of the port and the streets of the future neighbourhood that will be built among the railways, the port and the former bed of the river Turia. The Circuit will be 5.473 meters long and 14 meters wild.

The whole project is divided in two projects, one part is in the new neighbourhood of Grao and the other part is the interior basin of the port. Both projects are now in the bidding process.

The start line and the boxes will be in the platform number 4 of the port. The circuit will follow the basin untill the "Grúa Cabria" where it gets close to the end of the port. The layout then gets through the avenue of the palm trees of the Foredek to get to the esplanade in front of the Marina Norte. There, with some slow curves, gets perpendicularly to the access chanel of the basin to cross it using a revolving bridge.

Once in the Marina Sur, the circuit follows near the edge of the dock to pass through the place where today is located the lifting bridge next to the wall that separates the leisure area and the comercial port.

After passing through the fish market, the circuit left the area of the basin by the astilleros' door, heading directly to the same-named bridge, but just before to arrive there, the circuit turns 90º to the right to get into the new urban area of the Grao. Here the circuit follows the former bed of the Turia untill the railways, where it turns to the Cemetery of the Grao and gets to the north untill the Avenue of Francia.

There, the circuit follows its right road, crosses the roundabout that will join this neighbourhood and Moreras neighbourhood in the future and with some curves in "S" will avoid some buildings still unbuilt. Finally, it will crosses the Avenue Manuel Soto and turning left gets again in the start line inside the port.
