Valencia (07/02/2008).- Regional Councillor for Infrastructure and Transport, Mario Flores, assured today, that "the construction works for the Formula 1 circuit will be finished at the end of May". Flores made these declarations during his visit, today, while witnessing the transfer of the last piece of the lift bridge to its new location, where it will be converted into a swing bridge and will be part of the Valencia urban circuit.

Mario Flores explained that "the development work of the Grao area and of the marina at the port of Valencia is progressing nicely. In this way, we hope that the circuit will be completed before time, so that the final touches can be made well in advance of the Grand Prix".

The Councillor highlighted the importance of the construction works of the bridge as, "this construction is not only useful for the holding of such an important event as the F1, but it is also a fundamental element in the port's emergency plan because it joins the two harbour entrances".

The construction works for the two areas of the circuit are currently in progress - area A, the extension of Avenida de Francia and the Alameda and, connection with the Juan Carlos I Marina; and area B, the development of the Juan Carlos I Marina, as well as the pedestrian walkway over the former course of the River Turia, connecting the future suburbs of Moreras and Grao, which are provided for in the PAI (Plan de Actuación Integrada - a type of urban planning project in Valencia).

The Valencia Formula One urban circuit is set in the Grao area and it takes advantage of the road that is planned for under the city planning. Specifically, the circuit will pass along the inner dock of the port and around the streets of the future suburb, which will be constructed between the rail tracks, the port and the former course of the River Turia. The circuit will be 5,473 metres long and the track will be 14 metres wide.
